My class had the privilege of participating in Ms. Aronson's program! I am a kindergarten teacher in Briarcliff Manor, New York. The children were incredibly enthusiastic about learning to sign. Learning sign through songs and games made the sessions a treat the children always looked forward to. I found sign to be a useful classroom management tool in many ways. Children would sign to me if they had to go to the bathroom at group meeting times, as this was much less disruptive than verbally asking. We played sign language games during fire drills and while waiting outside our Related Arts classes (i.e. library, gym, etc.) and it made waiting quietly fun! We even signed that it was time to clean up to those with headphones on at the computer. As a kindergarten teacher, I am always looking for ways to make things more interesting; even engaging instructors can become boring to listen to when you must listen to them for 4 hours of the day! This gave me an opportunity to "turn my voice off" and "mix things up a bit" for the children.

As a culminating project, the kindergartens signed an entire song ("What a Wonderful World") at the end of the year show. It was very moving.

You have done a great job teaching the children and they really seem to understand everything. My daughter Katie will be going into Kindergarten in the fall and I hope she will be able to have this opportunity to learn sign language. Thanks again and thank you from Tori!"
