I worked at New York Society for the Deaf for several years enhancing my sign language skills before I began interpreting for the Deaf. As an interpreter, I became involved in special education, interpreting for children with special needs and more specifically, autism. As my own children began elementary school, I realized that knowing sign language benefits all children, including hearing children. I began my program by teaching one kindergarten class in Dows Lane Elementary School in Irvington, New York and today, three years later, 17 schools throughout Westchester participate in the program with more than 1,500 hearing children learning ASL!
